About the Book

The Footprints of Helena

Book 1 of 2

In The Footprints of Helena, Gloria Blume traces the path of personal growth and self-discovery of a young Latina protagonist and treasurer who faces multiple hardships while also reaping small achievements that steadily build her self-confidence—as a mother, a professional, and a woman who owns her own sexuality.

In The Path of Helena, we encounter a woman who stands firmly on her own, in control of her life and personal space. She has learned from the lessons encountered along her journey and moves forward with courage toward a hard-earned independence, growing in ambition and taking on ever-greater responsibilities, while also stumbling at times and allowing herself a certain degree of adventure and risk. At the same time, The Path of Helena is a story of courage and resilience that unfolds across varied geographies and multicultural contexts, yet remains anchored in the powerful Latin roots of a Peruvian family established in Florida. The work is also an ode to family, friendship, gastronomy, and love—that unconditional love that arrives when it is neither sought nor expected.
